Rachel McAllister

After several years working in the Health and Social Care sector, Rachel, 36, decided that her future was in a different field and she pursued a new pathway into teaching.

She is determined to become the best teacher that she can be to provide avenues of opportunity for her students, and after graduating in September, she gained her first teaching job working in Leeds.

Rachel said: “I enjoyed the PGCE and it’s a fantastic University Centre to study at. If childcare was ever an issue for me, my tutor was understanding of the situation. If I needed to catch up, I could follow the learning online via Moodle, and if I needed advice on what I missed I knew that I would always receive peer and tutor support.

“My qualification has helped me secure my first teaching job in Further Education at LifeSkills in Leeds which I am delighted about. The job is going really well and I’m enjoying it.”

Has Rachel’s new teaching career motivated you to look at higher education study? If so, please visit either our Nelson and Colne College website at www.nelson.ac.uk or our Accrington and Rossendale College website at www.accross.ac.uk today to view our range of University Centre courses.
