This course gives you the essential knowledge and hands-on experience to understand how children develop, learn, and explore the world. You’ll study child development milestones from birth through to adolescence, and discover how play is one of the most powerful ways children learn. You’ll also get to grips with vital areas like safeguarding and child protection, health and safety, and communication—building the confidence to create safe, supportive, and inspiring environments.
It’s not just about theory. You’ll learn how to plan exciting play-based activities, support literacy and language skills, and observe and assess children’s progress. You’ll also develop your teamwork and partnership skills, learning how to work with colleagues, families, and other professionals to give children the best possible start in life.

How is the course delivered?
The Level 2 Education and Early Years course is delivered through classroom learning, practical workshops, and work placement. In college, you’ll study child development, safeguarding, and supporting learning through lessons, group tasks, and case studies. Alongside this, you’ll complete a placement in a real early years/school setting, applying your knowledge to practice.
