At Accrington & Rossendale College, we know your role as a parent or guardian is key to your young person’s success. Moving from school to college is a big step, and we’re here to make it smooth and exciting for both of you!

Helping Choose the Right Course

Thinking about the future can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help. Talk to your young person about their interests, favourite school subjects, and career goals. Our team can guide you both to the perfect course pathway. Encourage them to attend an Open Event, where you can explore courses and meet tutors together.

Application Timelines

Applications are open year-round, but applying early has perks like exclusive events, priority interviews, and early connections with tutors. The sooner they apply, the better prepared they’ll be! You can help them apply today by clicking the button at the top of this page.

The Importance of College Interviews

College interviews help ensure your young person is on the right course for their goals. These friendly, informal chats also give them a chance to meet tutors and ask questions. Interviews typically take 15 minutes and are a great way to start their college journey.

Changing Their Mind

It’s normal for young people to change their course choice. Our Admissions Team is here to help them explore other options and find a path that better fits their goals.

University Applications and Beyond

If university is in their future, our Careers Team offers one-to-one advice on personal statements, UCAS applications, student finance, and interviews. We ensure a smooth transition to higher education.

Maths and English

If your son/daughter hasn’t yet achieved at least a Grade 4 in GCSE English Language and Maths (or a Level 2 equivalent), they will be required to study these subjects as part of their course. This is a mandatory part of their study programme and cannot be opted out of.

Many university courses and careers require passes in both subjects, so achieving them is essential for future opportunities.
